Founded in the 1970s by brothers Bernhard, Franz and Paul Mathis on the site of a former family limestone quarry. They were among the first estates on the Tuniberg to age their Pinot varieties in French barriques.
Since 2020 the estate has been run by Severin Stich (grandson of former owner Sonja Mathis-Stich) and his partner Sabeth Sedlatschek. They met while studying at Hochschule Geisenheim. Sabeth previously worked at Ökonomierat Rebholz in the Pfalz.
Vineyard area: approx. 12–15 hectares. Organic conversion since the 2020 takeover, first certified organic vintage in 2023. All wines are spontaneously fermented; many are bottled unfiltered on the lees, and some reds are fermented on the skins and aged in wood.
